What is the Gospel?

Welcome to Goodwood Baptist Church. We are a Christ centered and Bible based church that aims to equip our members to live a gospel focused life. Goodwood Baptist Church exists by the grace of God and for the glory of God, which is the ultimate purpose of all our activities. We seek to glorify the God of Scripture by promoting His worship, edifying and equipping the saints, evangelizing the nations, growing and strengthening His church, encouraging biblical fellowship among believers and ministering to the needy, thus proclaiming and defending God’s perfect law and glorious gospel of grace throughout the world.

The Goodwood Baptist Church family comprises of people from a variety of backgrounds. From the very outset, the focus of our services and ministry has been unashamedly God’s Word above all else. Public worship is conducted simply with a clear focus on preparing God’s people to hear God’s Word. We seek to implement ministries that present the gospel clearly to all age-groups.

We believe the purpose of the church is the glory of God. This is not to be defined by any single activity (e.g. missions, fellowship, preaching etc). Rather the extent to which the collective activities of the church achieve this purpose is the extent to which the church is being found faithful. Historically this has been realised in three directions: upwards (in love for God, in facilitating corporate opportunities for worship, and the private devotions of the people of God who make up the church), inwards (in meaningful fellowship as a body, in discipleship, in love for one another), and outwards (in the evangelistic witness we have to the world, in acts of charity, in love for the lost). We now give clarity and direction as we pursue God’s glory in this outward witness.

We recognize our need of the Lord’s help in offering pleasing and acceptable worship, and depend upon the Spirit of Christ to direct our hearts. Yet, we also have a responsibility to prepare and act according to His Word. In setting out the below, we are not seeking to stifle true worship, but rather to assist in that endeavour. As with other ministries, the elders are responsible for oversight of the Sunday services and we desire to do so wisely.
